Indore Teen Pair Arrested in Rooftop Jewellery Heist as Police Recover ₹16.17 Lakh

CCTV and a vigilant officer’s scooter photo guided investigators to Bhopal, leading to arrests and the recovery of the stolen cache.

Overview

  • Police arrested the two 18-year-old suspects at Rani Kamlapati Railway Station in Bhopal after tracing a scooter seen in an ASI’s photograph and following a rental trail linked through Mandla.
  • Investigators say the pair entered Shri Jewellers in Indore’s Rau area via a neighbouring rooftop on the night of December 21–22 and took gold, silver and diamond items worth about ₹16.17 lakh.
  • Officers recovered all of the stolen jewellery from the suspects after the arrests, and seized the scooter believed to have been used in the crime.
  • According to police, the male suspect told interrogators he had lost a part-time graphic design job due to AI adoption and the pair, from economically weak backgrounds, cited financial strain.
  • Police say the suspects reported being inspired by the film Bunty Aur Babli and told investigators they tried to sell the loot but planned to wait until after Christmas when buyers balked at their age.
