Indore Police Await Court Order to Record Australian Cricketers’ Testimony in Harassment Case

Police plan to take the players’ statements by video link once the court sets the process.

Overview

  • Two members of Australia’s women’s cricket team were allegedly stalked and one was inappropriately touched on October 23 while walking from their Indore hotel to a nearby café on Khajrana Road.
  • The accused, identified as Aqeel Khan (also known by aliases), was arrested after a six-hour operation and is in judicial custody on charges under BNS Sections 74 and 78.
  • Investigators say the probe is nearly complete and a chargesheet will be filed soon following the arrest and evidence gathering.
  • With the players no longer in Indore and currently in Mumbai, police say their statements will be recorded via video conferencing pending court directions.
  • Police and court records describe Khan as a history-sheeter with roughly 10 prior cases, including a 2017 robbery conviction and other pending matters.
