Indonesian Presidential Frontrunner Prabowo Subianto Faces Joint Attack in Third Debate

Despite criticisms over his performance as defence minister, Prabowo maintains a strong lead in the polls.

Indonesian presidential frontrunner Prabowo Subianto was jointly attacked by his two opponents, Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo, in the third presidential debate, focusing on defence, security, international relations and geopolitics.
Prabowo, who has been Indonesia’s defence minister for almost five years, was criticized for his performance at the ministry, including accusations of mismanaging defence procurement.
Despite the attacks, Prabowo remains the frontrunner with an electability of 46.9%, according to a survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia.
Prabowo has plans to assert Indonesia's role on the world stage and tackle global conflicts if elected, with a focus on building up defence and security.
Analysts are split on whether the attacks by Baswedan and Pranowo would pay off in reducing Prabowo’s lead in time for the Feb 14 presidential election, or if it might backfire.
