- Putra is accused of buying KrisFlyer accounts online while overseas and using the stolen miles to spend over S$1,600 on a Samsung phone, phone cover and pastries in Singapore.
- Singapore Airlines lodged a police report on October 11, 2024, after merchants detected the fraudulent miles, and Putra was detained at Changi Airport on January 11, 2025, upon his return.
- Under the Computer Misuse Act, the offences carry up to S$5,000 in fines and two years’ jail for unauthorised access, and up to S$10,000 and three years’ jail for unauthorised modification.
- The 28-year-old has signalled his intention to plead not guilty and was granted S$15,000 bail ahead of a June 5 court mention.
- Police are urging KrisFlyer members to enable multi-factor authentication to safeguard their accounts against similar cyberfraud.
