Indo-French Shakti-VIII Exercise Concludes With Showcase of Joint Tactical Prowess

Two weeks of live-fire urban warfare drills in southern France culminated in a Camp Larzac ceremony highlighting deepening defence ties.

Overview

  • The exercise concluded on July 2 with a formal closing ceremony at Camp Larzac in La Cavalerie, France.
  • Each side deployed 90 troops from India’s Jammu and Kashmir Rifles battalion and France’s 13th Foreign Legion Half-Brigade.
  • Training encompassed combat shooting, urban warfare, obstacle crossings, electronic warfare integration and counter-UAS operations.
  • Participants completed a continuous 96-hour field operation designed to test endurance, decision-making and joint planning under UN Chapter VII conditions.
  • A widely shared tug-of-war video and a mid-exercise visit by India’s ambassador to France underscored growing mutual trust and diplomatic support.
