IndiGo Disruptions Enter Day Four With 400+ Cancellations As Delhi Departures Stop

The carrier cites crew-planning gaps under stricter duty-time rules, targeting February 10, 2026 for full stability.

Overview

  • India's aviation regulator and the Civil Aviation Ministry have summoned IndiGo, ordered real-time inspections at major airports, and demanded a detailed roadmap on pilot hiring, training, roster restructuring and safety assessments with mandated 15‑day progress reports.
  • IndiGo acknowledged misjudging crew needs after Phase 2 of Flight Duty Time Limitations and has sought temporary exemptions for certain A320 night-duty provisions, with more cancellations expected over the next two to three days and a calibrated schedule cut from December 8.
  • After more than 550 cancellations on Thursday, Friday’s toll crossed 400, on-time performance at six metro airports slumped to 8.5%, all domestic departures from Delhi were halted until midnight, and Chennai departures were paused until 6 p.m.
  • Passengers reported hours-long queues, scarce information, missing baggage and sleeping on terminal floors, while aircraft occupying parking bays created knock‑on delays for other airlines, including at Pune.
  • With IndiGo controlling the largest share of domestic capacity, fares on alternative flights spiked sharply, including a HyderabadBhopal economy ticket listed at about ₹1.03 lakh on competing carriers.
