India's UPI Faces Third Major Outage in 30 Days, Disrupting Digital Payments

Over 2,100 complaints reported as users across platforms like Google Pay and PhonePe experience transaction failures, raising concerns about system reliability.

A significant technical glitch disrupted UPI services nationwide on April 12, marking the third major outage in 30 days.
The outage affected leading digital payment apps, including Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm, as well as major banks such as HDFC Bank and State Bank of India.
DownDetector recorded over 2,147 complaints by midday, with nearly 80% of users reporting issues during payment attempts.
Earlier this week, NPCI introduced a policy restricting international QR code payments to enhance payer identification, unrelated to the outages.
The recurring disruptions have intensified concerns over UPI's reliability, despite NPCI's previous claims of system stabilization following earlier issues.
