Overview
- From October 28, all new or renewed passports issued in the UAE are e-passports with RFID chips, while existing passports remain valid until expiry.
- Applications must be submitted through the GPSP 2.0 portal, which can auto-fill data from an old passport and is estimated to take about two minutes to complete.
- UAE-based applicants are not yet providing fingerprints or iris scans, though biometric capture has begun for passports issued in India.
- Service fees are unchanged and missions are targeting a 48-hour turnaround, with officials cautioning that minor early delays are possible.
- Applicants who already filed renewal forms may keep their paper-based application or refill online for an e-passport, and ICAO-compliant photos are now required.
