India's UAE Missions Begin Mandatory E-Passports for All New and Renewed Applications

The GPSP 2.0 online workflow is intended to accelerate border checks through a secure chip that deters forgery.

Overview

  • From October 28, all new or renewed passports issued in the UAE are e-passports with RFID chips, while existing passports remain valid until expiry.
  • Applications must be submitted through the GPSP 2.0 portal, which can auto-fill data from an old passport and is estimated to take about two minutes to complete.
  • UAE-based applicants are not yet providing fingerprints or iris scans, though biometric capture has begun for passports issued in India.
  • Service fees are unchanged and missions are targeting a 48-hour turnaround, with officials cautioning that minor early delays are possible.
  • Applicants who already filed renewal forms may keep their paper-based application or refill online for an e-passport, and ICAO-compliant photos are now required.
