India’s Two-Week Women’s Health Drive Ends With 18 Lakh Camps, 6.5 Crore Women Screened

Officials urge follow-up to turn recent screenings into ongoing care.

Overview

  • Run from September 17 to October 2, the campaign organised 18,08,071 health camps nationwide, according to the Union Health Ministry.
  • The ministry reported a total footfall of nearly 10 crore citizens, with services benefitting more than 6.5 crore women.
  • Screenings included about 1.78 crore for hypertension and 1.72 crore for diabetes, plus over 37 lakh breast, more than 19 lakh cervical, and over 69 lakh oral cancer checks.
  • Maternal and child services included over 62.60 lakh antenatal check-ups, vaccinations for more than 1.43 crore children, and nutrition counselling reaching over 1.16 crore people.
  • Additional outputs cited were 1.51 crore anaemia screenings, over 85 lakh TB screenings, 10.23 lakh sickle cell tests, registrations of about 10.69 lakh Ni-kshay Mitras and over 4.30 lakh blood donors, and issuance of more than 10.69 lakh Ayushman/PM-JAY cards, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the effort as a model of Jan Bhagidari.
