- TRAI data released on Friday shows India added 6.2 million telephone subscribers in July 2026, taking the total to 1,354.28 million and marking 0.46% monthly growth.
- Wireless connections drove the gain with 6.02 million new subscribers while wireline added 0.19 million during the month.
- Including machine-to-machine (M2M) links, broadband subscriptions reached 1,094.48 million in July and stood at 1,005.72 million when M2M is excluded.
- Rural telephone subscriptions rose by 1.58 million to 557.59 million and tele-density remains uneven at 154.12% in urban areas versus 61.05% in rural areas.
- High market activity is clear from 15.98 million mobile number portability requests in July and 1,204.01 million active wireless users on the peak VLR day, a pattern that could sustain competition and more IoT and fixed-wireless growth.
