India’s Quick-Commerce Apps Drop ‘10-Minute’ Claims After Government Push

The shift follows mounting safety concerns over pressure on delivery riders.

Overview

  • Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya asked instant-delivery platforms to remove rigid 10-minute deadlines to prioritize worker safety after a meeting last week.
  • Blinkit first removed the 10-minute tagline, with Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and Flipkart Minutes subsequently stripping the fast-delivery promotion from their apps.
  • There is no legal ban on ultra-fast fulfilment, and Reuters observed Blinkit showing an eight-minute delivery estimate in at least one part of Delhi.
  • A LocalCircle survey of over 90,000 responses across 180 urban districts found 38% of users do not want any items in 10 minutes, medicines are the top priority for those who do, and 74% back the government’s move.
  • Eternal said Blinkit’s business model remains unchanged, Zepto declined to comment, and Flipkart and Swiggy did not respond to media queries.
