India’s Online Festive Sales Seen Topping Rs 1.2 Lakh Crore in 2025, Datum Says

Rising quick‑commerce share with a rebound in discretionary spending signals a broader shift in what shoppers buy.

Overview

  • Datum projects a 27% year-on-year jump in 2025 festive e-commerce sales to more than Rs 1.2 lakh crore, while Redseer pegs the season at about Rs 1.15 lakh crore with 20–25% growth.
  • Urban consumer confidence has turned positive for the first time since 2022 as urban non-essential spending climbed 37.6%, and rural discretionary spending surged 54.7% to a two-year high.
  • Quick commerce is expected to capture roughly 12% of festive GMV, or about $1.6 billion, reflecting growing demand for instant delivery.
  • Mobiles and lifestyle still account for just over half of GMV, but their share is edging lower as grocery, appliances and personal care gain ground.
  • Amazon and Flipkart remain the top planned destinations (83% and 79% respectively), Blinkit has moved into the top five, card and UPI volumes have rebounded since March, and a possible GST rate change could lift sales even as timing uncertainty delays some big-ticket purchases.
