Overview

  • NSA Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Moscow from May 27–29, 2025, for the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues chaired by Russia’s Security Council secretary Sergey Shoigu.
  • Doval is expected to advocate for the expedited delivery of the fourth and fifth S-400 squadrons, originally delayed due to the RussiaUkraine conflict and logistical challenges.
  • India purchased the S-400 air defence system from Russia in 2018 for $5.4 billion, with three of the five units already delivered and deployed in key border regions.
  • The S-400 system demonstrated its operational effectiveness during Operation Sindoor, intercepting over 300 Pakistani drones during heightened cross-border tensions.
  • The advanced air defence system can detect and engage aerial threats, including stealth aircraft and ballistic missiles, up to 400 km away, enhancing India’s strategic air defence capabilities.
