India’s Net Direct Tax Receipts Rise 9.18% to Rs 10.82 Lakh Crore Through September 17

A steep fall in refunds lifted net receipts even as gross collections grew only modestly.

Overview

  • Gross direct tax collection reached Rs 12.43 lakh crore for April 1–September 17, up 3.39% year-on-year.
  • Refunds issued fell to about Rs 1.61 lakh crore, a decline of roughly 24% from the year-ago period.
  • Advance tax totaled Rs 4.48 lakh crore, with corporate payments up 6.11% to Rs 3.52 lakh crore and non-corporate down 7.30% to Rs 96,784 crore.
  • Net corporate tax collection stood at over Rs 4.72 lakh crore, while non-corporate collections were about Rs 5.84 lakh crore; STT collections were Rs 26,306 crore.
  • For FY26, the government targets Rs 25.20 lakh crore in direct taxes and Rs 78,000 crore from Securities Transaction Tax.
