India's Longest Sea Bridge, Atal Setu, Inaugurated by PM Modi

The 21.8 km long bridge, constructed at a cost of about ₹17,840 crore, is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from 2 hours to around 20 minutes.

  • India's longest sea bridge, the Atal Setu, also known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The 21.8 km long six-lane bridge was constructed at a cost of about ₹17,840 crore and is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from 2 hours to around 20 minutes.
  • The bridge will provide faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport, and improve connectivity between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
  • The Atal Setu is equipped with the latest technology and several new-age features, including orthotropic steel decks, river circulation rings, and lights that do not disturb the aquatic environment.
  • The maximum speed limit for four-wheelers on the Atal Setu bridge will be 100 kmph, while two-wheelers and three-wheelers have been prohibited on the sea bridge.
