The visit is at the invitation of Ronald Lamola, South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.
India seeks to bolster the Global South's representation on issues like climate change funding and multilateral institution reforms.
Jaishankar is expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G20 forum to enhance diplomatic relations.
South Africa currently holds the G20 Presidency, which rotates annually among member nations, and includes the African Union as a full member since 2023.
