Overview
- Highway projects generated an estimated 48.87 crore man-days of direct employment and 57.81 crore man-days of indirect employment
- Of 8,391 km of planned access-controlled expressways, 5,110 km have been constructed and 2,730 km opened to traffic
- The ministry is deploying FASTag tolling, ANPR traffic monitoring and Advanced Traffic Management Systems on four-lane and above corridors to boost efficiency
- There are 1,240 national highway projects under construction spanning 29,406 km at a cost of Rs 7.80 lakh crore, with 15,674 km completed so far
- In Karnataka, 23 highway projects covering nearly 600 km and costing Rs 10,749 crore are slated for FY26 completion but face land acquisition delays
