The Kolkata Metro extension includes the deepest metro station in India at Howrah and features a 520-meter stretch under the river Hooghly.
The inauguration event also marked the launch of several key metro and rapid transit projects across the country, enhancing urban mobility.
The underwater metro is expected to cater to a daily ridership of 7 lakh, addressing traffic congestion and pollution issues in Kolkata.
The project joins Kolkata Metro in the elite club of metros with under-river tunnels, alongside London, Moscow, and Munich.
