India’s First MumbaiAhmedabad Bullet Train Set to Launch Soon

The first high-speed corridor forms part of the government’s broader rail modernization plan backed by Japan’s JICA financing.

Overview

  • Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train will begin service very soon without specifying an exact launch date.
  • The 508 km corridor will run at up to 320 km/h between Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, cutting travel time to two hours and seven minutes.
  • The route will include stops at Vapi, Surat, Anand and Vadodara before reaching Ahmedabad.
  • Vaishnaw also approved new rail initiatives in Gujarat, including a PorbandarRajkot train, a ₹135 crore coach maintenance facility at Ranavav, a flyover at Porbandar and cargo terminals at Bhavnagar.
  • These developments contribute to a national drive that has laid 34,000 km of new track in 11 years and is redeveloping 1,300 stations.
