India’s Exchanges Publish 2026 Market Holiday Calendar, Confirm Jan. 1 Trading

Traders should plan for settlement-only closures causing fund-transfer delays.

Overview

  • The NSE lists 15 weekday non-trading days for 2026, with 19 total trading holidays when including four that fall on weekends and do not add extra closures.
  • Official closures include Republic Day on January 26, Christmas on December 25 and Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, with trading halted across equity, derivatives, currency and commodity segments.
  • BSE and NSE confirm normal trading on January 1, 2026, with the first market holiday of the year falling on January 26.
  • No weekday stock-market holidays occur in February, July or August under the current schedule.
  • Settlement holidays such as February 19, April 1 and August 27 pause clearing and settlement operations, and the lists may change if central or Maharashtra public holidays are revised.
