India’s Drug Crackdown Intensifies With Airport Cocaine Hauls, 1.2-Tonne Ganja Seizure and Multi-City Arrests

Officials say the intelligence-led operations have opened fresh leads to courier networks and potential cross-border suppliers.

  • Chennai Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit seized 2 kg of cocaine from a passenger arriving from Singapore on September 28, detaining the traveler for investigation.
  • Separately at Chennai airport, a Bollywood supporting actor was detained in a joint Customs–DRI operation after 3.5 kg of cocaine was found in a trolley’s false bottom; he had flown via Singapore from Cambodia and the probe is ongoing.
  • Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills Police arrested two Manipur residents and seized 512.63 grams of heroin packed in 50 soap boxes, with foreign currency recovered and an NDPS case filed.
  • Bengaluru CCB’s Narcotics Wing arrested seven, including two foreign nationals, and seized MDMA, ecstasy, hydro-ganja and ganja valued at about ₹9.93 crore across multiple cases and locations.
  • Further late-September actions included Rachakonda police intercepting a truck carrying 1,210 kg of ganja from Odisha to Rajasthan, Mumbai ANC’s 427-gram mephedrone seizure, Assam’s recovery of 30,000 meth tablets, Manipur heroin arrests, and a Virar heroin case under probe for alleged Pakistan links.
