India’s Defence Production to Grow Sixfold as Budget Rises Nearly Fivefold by 2047

  • India’s share of GDP devoted to defence is forecast to rise from 2% today to around 4.5% by 2047 while R&D funding could increase from 4% to as much as 10% of the defence budget.
  • Strategic targets include achieving self-reliance in defence production by 2032, securing top-five global exporter status by 2038 and leading in critical niche technologies by 2045.
