Overview

  • The council is meeting this week for its first session since Operation Sindoor to finalise more than ₹1 lakh crore in capital acquisition proposals.
  • A ₹30,000 crore plan for three regiments of DRDO-designed Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile systems is set to strengthen India’s layered air defence.
  • The Indian Air Force is seeking approval to procure three I-STAR intelligence, surveillance, targeting and reconnaissance aircraft to boost battlefield awareness.
  • The Indian Navy will propose induction of DRDO-developed pressure-based moored sea mines alongside unmanned underwater vessels to enhance maritime and undersea operations.
  • The council will revisit the upgrade programme for 84 Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighters with new avionics, weapons systems and electronic warfare capabilities.
