India's Cabinet Approves Rs 6,957-Crore Four-Laning of NH-715 With 34.5 km Kaziranga Viaduct

Designed with wildlife agencies, the three-year EPC build will replace the at-grade route through the park.

Overview

  • The approved stretch covers 85.675 km, combining 30.22 km of at-grade widening with greenfield bypasses at Jakhalabandha (11.5 km) and Bokakhat (9.5 km).
  • The government plans to abandon the existing two-lane road inside Kaziranga once the elevated section opens, incorporating the old alignment into the national park.
  • The corridor’s alignment links NH-127, NH-129 and SH-35 and connects to three railway stations and three airports to bolster multimodal connectivity across Assam.
  • A Cabinet brief projects about 15.42 lakh person-days of direct employment and 19.19 lakh person-days of indirect work during the project.
  • MoRTH says the Kaziranga design was developed with the Environment Ministry, NTCA and the Wildlife Institute of India to enable uninterrupted animal movement and cut collision risks.
