India’s Auto Exports Rise 22% in Q1 on Record Car Shipments

Strong Middle Eastern demand alongside growth in Latin American markets drove exports through expanded free-trade agreements

Overview

  • Total vehicle exports jumped 22% year-on-year to 1,457,461 units in April–June, according to SIAM data.
  • Passenger vehicle shipments reached a record 204,330 units, marking a 13% increase from last year.
  • Maruti Suzuki led the segment with 96,181 exports, up 37% and accounting for 47% of all passenger vehicle shipments.
  • Two-wheeler exports climbed 23% to 1,136,942 units while commercial and three-wheeler shipments rose 23% and 34%, respectively.
  • Rebounds in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Japan paired with new free-trade pacts, notably with Australia, further sustained the export momentum.
