Overview
- The ninth round in Lima concluded on November 5 with substantive progress reported on goods, services, rules of origin, technical barriers, customs, dispute settlement and critical minerals.
- Both sides agreed to hold intersessional meetings, and the next round is proposed for January 2026 in New Delhi.
- India’s team was led by Joint Secretary and Chief Negotiator Vimal Anand with Ambassador Vishvas Vidu Sapkal, while Peru was represented by Minister Teresa Stella Mera Gómez and Vice Minister César Augusto Llona Silva.
- On a parallel track, India and Chile wrapped up a third CEPA round in Santiago on October 30 covering goods, services, investment, IP, standards, SPS/TBT and critical minerals, with a shared goal of an early, time-bound conclusion.
- India is seeking a dedicated critical-minerals chapter to secure long-term access to gold, lithium, copper and molybdenum, a priority reinforced by rising 2024–25 imports from Peru and Chile.
