Indiana Woman Charged Over Social-Media Threats to Kill President Trump

Officials say explicit online threats led agents to the suspect's arrest.

  • Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, of Lafayette, Indiana, was arrested in Washington on Aug. 16 and charged with threatening the President and transmitting threats in interstate commerce.
  • According to court filings, Secret Service agents documented Instagram posts from Aug. 2–9 and Facebook posts from Aug. 6–15 that called for violence, including an Aug. 6 message vowing to “sacrificially kill” the President.
  • During an Aug. 15 voluntary interview, agents say Jones said she would kill Trump at “the compound” if given the chance and referenced a “bladed object” to “carry out her mission.”
  • After a protest near the White House on Aug. 16, she admitted making the threats, confirmed ownership of the Facebook account used, denied current intent to harm, and was taken into custody.
  • The Secret Service is investigating, Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Satter is prosecuting, and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the case on Aug. 18 while stressing the seriousness of threats to the President.
