Overview
- Jack Anthony Young, 45, of Mishawaka, Indiana, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting death of Charles Barnett, 73, in Pontiac on April 30, 1998.
- Young was arrested without incident on Nov. 17 by the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
- Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald has charged Young with one count of felony murder, a life offense in Michigan.
- Investigators say Barnett surprised a burglar who shot him, then stole and crashed Barnett’s car, which officers traced back to the victim’s home where his body was found.
- Sgt. Todd Hunt and retired Lt. Steve Troy reopened the case in 2020 and, after reviewing evidence, linked Young to the homicide; if convicted, he could face life without parole.
