Indian Warships INS Tamal and INS Surat Make Jeddah Port Call to Deepen Saudi Naval Ties

The visit showcases India's push to strengthen defence cooperation through personnel exchanges.

Overview

  • INS Tamal arrived in Jeddah on 27 August and INS Surat on 28 August, according to the Indian Navy.
  • Crews will engage the Royal Saudi Naval Forces and Border Guards for sports fixtures, facility familiarisation and discussions to share best practices and explore further cooperation.
  • India will host a cultural exchange for RSNF dignitaries, Border Guards, diplomats, local officials and members of the Indian diaspora.
  • INS Surat, commissioned in January, was built by Mazagon Dock in Mumbai, designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and features over 75% indigenous content.
  • INS Tamal, a multi-role stealth frigate commissioned in July at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, is the eighth in Project 1135.6 and the second of the follow-on Tushil class.
