Overview

  • The Supreme Court has given States and Union Territories six months to develop and file swift response protocols for road accident victims at the grassroots level.
  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) must convene meetings with State and UT departments to enforce driver working-hour limits under the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • The Court summoned the MoRTH secretary to explain non-compliance with its January 8 order on cashless medical treatment for accident victims.
  • The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been directed to share its road safety protocol with States and UTs and file an affidavit on its implementation within six months.
  • The Centre has two weeks to provide a timeline for constituting the long-delayed National Road Safety Board and must submit the overdue 2023 road accident report by August 2025.
