Overview

  • Eighty percent of tracks now support speeds of at least 110 km/h and 21.8% support speeds of at least 130 km/h, according to July data.
  • The total track network has grown by 33.2% since 2014 to 105,672 km, expanding capacity alongside speed upgrades.
  • Network enhancements include 60 kg rails, wider base concrete sleepers, thick web switches, longer rail panels, H Beam sleepers, and modern track renewal and maintenance machines.
  • Vande Bharat trains are designed for 180 km/h with a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h, though actual velocities depend on track geometry, stoppages, and maintenance schedules.
  • The prototype Vande Bharat Sleeper has been completed and its first rake is undergoing commissioning trials as part of rollout plans.
