Overview

  • North Central Railway’s Prayagraj division is rolling out electronic weighing at hubs including Prayagraj Junction, Kanpur Central, Mirzapur, Tundla, Aligarh Junction and Etawah, with entry allowed only after luggage is weighed and cleared, according to officials.
  • Free allowances will be enforced by class: First AC 70 kg, Second AC 50 kg, Third AC and Sleeper 40 kg, and General 35 kg.
  • Passengers get limited relaxations of roughly 10–15 kg beyond the free allowance, with additional weight required to be booked in parcel or brake vans.
  • Size limits apply, commonly up to 100 cm x 60 cm x 25 cm for trunks and 55 cm x 45 cm x 22.5 cm for AC 3-tier/Chair Car, with oversized or obstructive bags to be sent via the brake van for a fee.
  • Excess-luggage charges will be applied, though reports differ on the calculation, citing either 1.5 times the standard ‘L’ scale after the free allowance or a fine of six times the booking amount for unbooked loads.
