Indian Railways Sets Fares and Rules for Vande Bharat Sleeper as HowrahGuwahati Launch Nears

The Railway Board has finalised an airline-style model featuring per‑km pricing, a 400 km minimum, confirmed-only digital tickets.

  • Per‑km fares are fixed at ₹2.4 for 3AC, ₹3.1 for 2AC and ₹3.8 for 1AC with a minimum charge of 400 km, and GST applies separately.
  • Only confirmed tickets will be issued with no RAC, waitlist or partially confirmed bookings, and all berths open from the start of the advance reservation period via digital purchase.
  • The inaugural service is set for the HowrahGuwahati route, with multiple reports indicating a flag‑off next week and officials citing January 17 for the ceremony.
  • The 16‑coach rake has 11 3AC, 4 2AC and 1 First AC coach, providing 823 berths, and features Kavach protection, emergency talk‑back, automatic doors, improved suspension and upgraded sanitation.
  • Existing quotas for women, PwDs, senior citizens and duty pass holders apply with no VIP or emergency quota, only fully reimbursable passes are valid, and luggage limits remain as per standard Indian Railways rules.
