Indian Railways Says Mail/Express Trains Were 80% On Time in April–October 2025

The ministry says strong Vande Bharat demand sits within capacity limits that guide decisions on future services.

Overview

  • A written reply in Lok Sabha reported overall punctuality at about 80% for April–October 2025, up from 77.12% in 2024–25.
  • Officials cited fog, path constraints, asset maintenance, alarm chain pulling, agitations, cattle run-overs and other unforeseen events as key causes of delays.
  • Vande Bharat services recorded around 100% occupancy, with two indigenously developed Sleeper rakes manufactured and undergoing trials or commissioning.
  • The 508-km Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project remains under execution with technical and financial assistance from the Government of Japan.
  • New train introductions and any additional high-speed corridors will depend on section capacity, available paths, rolling stock, supporting infrastructure and financing viability.
