Overview
- Tracks permitting 110 kmph and above have risen from 31,445 km in 2014 to 84,244 km today, covering about 80% of the network.
- Indian Railways completed 6,851 track-km of renewal in FY 2024–25, and more than 7,500 track-km of renewal work is underway in 2025–26.
- The ministry has set a target to renew 7,900 track-km in FY 2026–27 to sustain safety and performance standards.
- Turnout upgrades are accelerating, with 7,161 Thick Web Switches and 1,704 Weldable CMS Crossings provided in 2024–25 and over 8,000 TWS plus more than 3,000 CMS crossings being installed in 2025–26.
- Mechanised deep screening covered 7,442 km in 2024–25 and is over 7,500 km in 2025–26, supported by procurement of more than 1,100 track machines since 2014 and about 15,000 km of fencing to enhance safety.
