As per an official release, the double-stack long-haul container train departed from JNPT at 7 pm on August 21 and covered a distance of approximately 422 km.

  • The train left Jawaharlal Nehru Port around 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, and completed a roughly 422 km run to CONCOR’s GCT at Varnama in Vadodara division.
  • The 1.3 km formation combined two coupled double‑stack rakes and carried 360 TEUs, with each rake handling 180 TEUs.
  • Railway officials provided technical details showing the leading rake ran with loco 60311 at about 1,817 tonnes and the trailing rake with loco 24690 at about 2,105 tonnes.
  • The movement was electrically hauled and is being presented as proof that longer, heavier double‑stack trains can reduce container dwell at ports and cut reliance on diesel road haulage.
  • The run builds on the Dedicated Freight Corridor programme by testing infrastructure, clearances and signalling needed for regular long‑haul double‑stack services that could speed logistics and lower costs for exporters and importers.
