Indian Railways Pilots Covered Blankets With Jaipuri Prints on Jaipur–Asarva Express

The trial responds to long-standing hygiene complaints over rarely washed blankets.

Overview

  • Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the pilot on Thursday at Jaipur’s Khatipura station for all AC classes of the Jaipur–Asarva (Jaipur–Ahmedabad/Asarva) Express.
  • Each blanket is issued with a washable, long-lasting cover using traditional Jaipuri/Sanganeri prints designed for easy maintenance.
  • The trial is limited to this one train for now, with officials indicating potential expansion to other services after evaluation.
  • The intervention targets cleanliness concerns, as onboard blankets are not washed after every journey and are typically cleaned only once or twice a month.
  • The launch was reported alongside wider Rajasthan rail upgrades, including Rs 9,960 crore budgeted for infrastructure, Amrit Bharat station redevelopments, and over Rs 100 crore in new amenity projects at 65 North Western Railway stations.
