Overview

  • Indian Railways is running a 15-day safety inspection drive across all zones to audit level crossing gates following the July 8 collision in Cuddalore.
  • Divisional Railway Managers are required to conduct at least two random voice logger checks at non-interlocked gates every day.
  • CCTV cameras with battery or solar-backed power are being installed at every level crossing to ensure uninterrupted monitoring.
  • The TVU threshold for mandatory interlocking has been lowered from 20,000 to 10,000, expediting automated gate controls at high-traffic sites.
  • Railway Protection Force or Home Guard personnel are being deployed at conflict-prone crossings while signage, speed breakers and underpass or overpass construction are accelerated to eliminate safety risks.
