Indian Railways Launches Door-to-Door Logistics Hub, Assured DelhiKolkata Freight and MumbaiKolkata Parcel Service

CONCOR will run operations with app-based bookings to draw time-sensitive shipments from road to rail.

Overview

  • Sonik Goods Shed near Lucknow was inaugurated as an integrated logistics hub, described by officials as the country’s first door-to-door rail logistics service.
  • The assured transit container train between Delhi and Kolkata will run bi-weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays with a 120-hour delivery guarantee and intermediate handling at Agra and Kanpur.
  • A new door-to-door parcel service connects Bhiwandi and Sankrail with a 48–60 hour transit target and pick-ups available up to roughly 205 km from the loading point.
  • The government says the parcel option offers about 7.5% lower cost and roughly 30% faster delivery compared with all-road movement.
  • CONCOR will manage terminal operations, invest in temporary container warehouses, maintain assets and compliance, and offer multiple booking modes via its e‑Logistics app, with the Sonik project initially approved for two years and extendable.
