New cement logistics policies target faster, cheaper bulk movement with lower emissions.

Overview

  • Cumulative loading reached 1,020 million tonnes in FY 2025–26 as reported by the Railway Ministry.
  • Coal led at 505 MT, followed by iron ore at 115 MT, cement at 92 MT, containers at 59 MT, pig iron and finished steel at 47 MT, and fertilisers at 42 MT, with additional categories contributing the balance.
  • Average daily loading stands near 4.4 MT, up from about 4.2 MT a year earlier, indicating improved operating efficiency.
  • Freight handled from April to October totaled 935.1 MT, rising from 906.9 MT in the same period last year.
  • The Policy for Bulk Cement Terminals and rationalised rates for containerised bulk cement seek to expand bulk-handling capacity, cut transit time and costs, support MSMEs, ease highway congestion, and advance Net Zero goals.
