Indian Railways Finalizes Reservation Charts Eight Hours Ahead as New Tatkal Rules Kick In

Overview

  • Reservation charts for long-distance trains will now be finalized eight hours before departure instead of the previous four-hour window.
  • From July 1, Tatkal ticket bookings on IRCTC platforms require authenticated user IDs with OTP verification via Aadhaar or DigiLocker by month’s end.
  • Basic fares rise by 1 paisa per kilometre for non-AC coaches and 2 paise per kilometre for AC classes effective today.
  • Waiting list quotas have been reset to 60 percent of berths for AC classes and fixed at 30 percent for non-AC sleepers and second-class coaches.
  • A modernized PRS developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems is set to launch in December with capacity for 150,000 bookings and 4 million enquiries per minute.
