Indian Railways Deploys 12,011 Festive Specials as Minister Reviews On-Ground Crowd Measures

Round-the-clock war rooms, expanded holding areas, extra security form the core of the crowd-management push.

Overview

  • Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected New Delhi station and said over 4,211 special trains served more than 1 crore passengers between October 1 and 20, with around 7,800 additional specials planned in the coming days.
  • Central Railway has scheduled 1,998 DiwaliChhath trips, with 705 completed carrying 10.68 lakh passengers, and projects over 30 lakh travellers; fixed platform assignments, enlarged holding areas at LTT, and heightened RPF/GRP deployment are in place.
  • Western Railway is operating over 2,400 festive trips, created temporary and permanent holding zones at Bandra Terminus, introduced mobile UTS ticketing, expanded CCTV monitoring, and suspended platform tickets at Bandra Terminus, Vapi, and Surat.
  • Northern Railway set up permanent and temporary holding areas at New Delhi and Anand Vihar, scheduled 26 specials from Delhi area on Tuesday, ran two unscheduled services to Darbhanga and Bhagalpur, and paused platform tickets at five Delhi-NCR stations from October 15 to 28.
  • South Central Railway reported 1,010 trains between September 21 and October 20 with 4.80 crore passengers, added 237 coaches and 26 holding areas, while Northeast Frontier Railway is running 620 trips and Southern Railway introduced 435 trips plus extra stoppages and security.
