Overview
- Indian Railways launched its first onboard ATM as part of a trial on the Mumbai–Manmad Panchavati Express, aiming to enhance passenger convenience and explore non-fare revenue streams.
- The ATM, installed in a repurposed mini pantry cubicle, allows passengers to withdraw cash and access banking services while the train is in motion.
- The trial, conducted in collaboration with the Bank of Maharashtra, was largely successful, with minor connectivity issues reported in tunnel stretches along the Igatpuri–Kasara route.
- Safety measures include a shutter system, round-the-clock CCTV monitoring, vibration isolation, and fire extinguishers to ensure secure operation.
- Indian Railways is monitoring the pilot’s performance and is considering expanding the service to other trains, including the Mumbai–Hingoli Jan Shatabdi Express, if the trial proves viable.
