Overview
- Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the newly built Yatri Suvidha Kendra on Saturday at the Ajmeri Gate side of New Delhi railway station.
- The permanent facility is designed for about 7,000 passengers and is divided into pre-ticketing, ticketing, and post-ticketing zones measuring 1,218, 2,860, and 1,150 sq m respectively.
- Key amenities include 22 ticket counters, 25 ATVMs, seating for 200, 18 HVLS fans, a 652 sq m toilet block, RO drinking water, a 24-speaker PA system, three LED train information displays, and seven fire-fighting units.
- Security systems feature 18 CCTV cameras, five luggage scanners, and five door-frame metal detectors, with the facility intended to streamline flows and enable unreserved travelers to purchase tickets on site.
- The project follows the February 15 stampede that killed 18 people, with similar centres targeted for Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, Varanasi and Ayodhya, plans for 55 more stations nationwide, and an FOB-1 extension to improve Metro connectivity and reduce platform congestion.
