Overview

  • Banaras Locomotive Works installed a 70-metre array comprising 28 panels with a combined capacity of 15 kWp in the track corridor.
  • Reports indicate that the panels are bonded to concrete sleepers with epoxy and cushioned by rubber pads to withstand train-induced vibrations and allow removal for routine upkeep.
  • If scaled across the network, the project could generate an estimated 321,000 kWh per kilometre each year without requiring additional land acquisition.
  • On August 12, Western Railway energized the first 2×25 kV traction system on the Nagda–Khachrod section using Scott-connected 100 MVA transformers to improve overhead power delivery.
  • Earlier this month, Indian Railways flagged off an industrial salt rake carrying 3,851.2 tonnes from Sanosara to Dahej, projecting freight earnings of about ₹31.7 lakh.
