Overview
- The Railway Ministry said nine services will be added within one week, building on 30 Amrit Bharat trains made operational since December 2023.
- New routes cover Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak, Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar), New Jalpaiguri–Nagercoil, New Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli, Alipurduar–SMVT Bengaluru, Alipurduar–Mumbai (Panvel), Kolkata (Santragachi)–Tambaram, Kolkata (Howrah)–Anand Vihar Terminal, and Kolkata (Sealdah)–Banaras.
- Positioned as non-AC long-distance sleeper services, Amrit Bharat trains are priced at roughly ₹500 per 1,000 km to offer affordable travel for high-demand corridors.
- Official materials highlight amenities including foldable snack tables, mobile and bottle holders, improved seating and berths, electro‑pneumatic flush toilets, fire suppression systems, facilities for disabled passengers, fast charging points and pantry cars.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the expansion, saying the services would enhance passenger convenience while supporting commerce and tourism linked to West Bengal and Assam.
