Indian Navy Signs Turnkey Contract With BEL to Launch National Maritime Domain Awareness Project

BEL will overhaul India’s coastal surveillance infrastructure through AI-driven upgrades to the command network followed by transformation of IMAC into a multi-agency centre.

Overview

  • The July 8 signing ceremony in New Delhi was attended by Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti and BEL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain.
  • The deal tasks BEL with upgrading the existing NC3I Network to the NMDA Network and integrating AI-enabled surveillance software.
  • Gurugram’s Information Management and Analysis Centre will be transformed into a multi-agency NMDA centre hosting representatives from national maritime stakeholders.
  • The project will be executed on a turnkey basis under the administration of the Indian Navy.
  • Officials say the overhaul will bolster integrated data collation, analysis and information sharing to strengthen security along India’s coastline and across the Indian Ocean region.
