Indian Navy Sets Oct. 6 Commissioning for Androth, Second Shallow-Water ASW Vessel

  • Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar will preside over the commissioning at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.
  • Androth is the second of 16 Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Watercraft split between GRSE and Cochin Shipyard under a contract worth nearly Rs 13,000 crore.
  • The vessel was handed over to the Navy on September 13 after construction overseen by the Directorate of Ship Production and the Warship Overseeing Team in Kolkata.
  • Designed for littoral operations, the craft uses waterjet propulsion and carries advanced sensors and weapons to detect, track, and neutralise underwater threats.
  • The program emphasizes domestic industry, integrating systems from BEL, L&T, Mahindra Defence, and MEIL while engaging more than 55 MSMEs.
