Overview

  • On June 29 the Palau-flagged MT Yi Cheng 6 reported a major engine room fire and complete power failure in the Gulf of Oman.
  • INS Tabar’s firefighting teams and equipment were swiftly transferred to the tanker by boat and helicopter.
  • Seven crew members were evacuated to the warship for medical checks and all 14 Indian nationals onboard are unhurt.
  • Combined efforts of 13 naval specialists and five tanker crew have drastically reduced the blaze, confining it to the engine room.
  • INS Tabar remains on station to support final extinguishing and monitoring as a formal investigation into the fire’s cause gets underway.
