Overview

• This marks the first simultaneous commissioning of two frontline combatants constructed at different Indian shipyards.
• Udaygiri was built by MDL in Mumbai and Himgiri by GRSE in Kolkata, both being Project 17A successors to the Shivalik class with stealth shaping, CODOG propulsion, an integrated platform management system, and advanced sensors and weapons.
• Each frigate incorporates roughly 75% indigenous content with contributions from hundreds of MSMEs, an effort credited with creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
• Udaygiri is the Warship Design Bureau’s 100th design and the fastest of its class delivered post-launch owing to modular construction techniques.
• Both ships will join the Eastern Fleet, reinforcing India’s maritime posture and ability to safeguard interests across the Indian Ocean Region.
